I've done that as well, it's a good way of seeing who you want to side with. It can get tricky. I already know one artist who has a sick fixation of a certain Tex Avery cartoon that just bugs me, yet I can't help but see what else could he do with this certain wolf figure (which he has already stuck into a relationship with some bird from another WWII-era cartoon). There's a few I follow I would recommend checking out. I probably already did this before but here I go again! GreyKitty (knows her stuff, not bad for someone who stepped out of the Lion King/Balto group) Tymime (excellent dueo who could get a job easy for any comic book if they published what they've done) Slasher12 (I feel this person has potential to get a job easy with Disney if they let her do a comic with one of their characters/series, though she's quite into Mortimer Mouse) JaylacineChiboa SilverDeni Granitoons (not really a furry artist, but his work has a very Hanna-Barbera/Depatie-Freleng quality to it) basakward (an animator from Florida, got to help him out on his recent project) fnook (another animator) tombancroft (animator with Disney cred) Saskunah (Mexican dude who did all the AstroBoy and Kimba VHS covers for Right Stuf) SharpDressedReptile Temiree (pretty awesome designs, apparently a Redwall fan) EDIT: Because there's a few I just remembered! Kresblain (nice guy with some rather cute, cuddly animals) CoyoteEsquire (student animator) Sandora (kinda left it behind but she could work for any studio in the world) ShoJoJim (this guy's a natural, if he could ever get it done, that odd cat/dog pirate story he has could make for great little animated special) SuperStinkWarrior (quite organic-looking figures, you can just kind feel those drawings) WaxToons (not much to say here, he apparently started in the YouTube Poop camp but has since managed to get himself into animating several things recently, hasn't done much for a while but I hope he doesn't burn himself out) A FURTHER EDIT: Most of these guys don't appear to be in the "lifestyle" category of furry, though it wouldn't surpirse me if they had been commissioned to design fursuits to those who demand it. These are merely artists, not performers.
So I just remembered this: Right, so I DM a tabletop game, and one of the things I do is bum blueprints for settings so that I don't have to draw a map myself (lazy and the final product works alright). Well, one day I was looking for a monastery blueprint since the party was dealing with a religious group at the time. At first I didn't give a shit about the site, since I just take the pix... then I saw the HTML for it: http://www.virtualhermit.net/~ottercomics/monastery/fred.html
There's a bit of furry drama going down right now. Apparently the administrators/moderators of Furaffinity and it's forums are leaving. And almost all of them have left so far. There has been a lot of spam posted, which has resulted in Dragoneer shutting down registration to the forum while he attempts to do damage control. /furry/ seems to largely be organizing it.
At this point the may as well cut their losses and shut it all down. Ah who am I kidding, I know they'd never do something that's smart for a change.
So a little backstory here: Dragoneer (the guy who used to own the site before he sold to IMVU and is now the site's "Director") has become a bit of a paranoid nutjob over the past few years. Since the IMVU takeover, he has been requiring the mainsite's volunteers to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements. This has been more or less a way to try to scare staff into staying quiet about the goings-on behind the scenes more than it is about keeping user data private (Plus, leaked user data in the past has mostly come from him). Apparently earlier this month he decided to start forcing the forum staff to sign these NDA's as well, and they left because they refused to give him copies of their government ID's. It's worth noting he used to work at Amazon before he started getting paid to run FA and one of the recent news articles mentioned that Amazon uses some of the same tactics. He called Amazon "Soulless and Dystopian" in a comment about one of said articles, but clearly thinks firing your forum janitors for not turning over an ID is A-OK. Once all the forum mods left, chaos ensued when people realized that the "mods are asleep" more or less. So they killed registration and one of the mainsite admins came over to put out some of the larger fires (and also enforce the "don't talk bad about staff" rule of all things).
It's kind of funny when furries complain about still not being publicly accepted. Like, just because there's more than just one lolcow rich group now doesn't mean people forget the genesis, literally the first one of its kind.
I can't help but wonder: when did people decide going out in public as a furry was socially acceptable? They do creepy shit and get pissed when people make fun of them for it. I don't hate furries, but they seem way too surprised when that happens.
I think there's some places where it's just a part of the whole "weird" movement. You know, like that "Keep Austin Weird" thing where there's this whole attitude of weird shit in public being acceptable. But then they try it in Des Moines and people are freaked out.
Because of a little thing that's Always Unique Totally Interesting Sometimes Mysterious. Some of them just really don't know that it makes them look retarded.
I thought about making a separate thread for this, but decided against it since in the grand scheme of things it's insignificant and doesn't warrant it's own thing. Instead, since it's furry-related I'll just put a synopsis here. Recently this past week there's been some drama in the Twitter region of the fandom stemming from the user @badfurbgone, which is essentially the furry equivalent of the GameGate block list that got its creator into trouble or whatever. @TheBlockBot (the GamerGate block list) has endorsed @badfurbgone. Currently, as of this post, @badfurbgone has 56 followers and 31 people on its block list. Here is an archive snapshot of the Twitter profile from a few minutes ago: https://archive.is/ei9QO The people on the shit list range from legitimately bad people (convicted/arrested people) to those who simply disagree with the hivemind and are "transphobic" because of it. Our main man StrikerWolf even made the list for being racist as hell, so these circles are starting to overlap a bit. It was determined by other furs that the person who created the block list and who's currently in charge of it is @Fliffums. Their Twitter for posterity's sake: https://archive.is/nZP1p This whole thing is an SJW nightmare and the people who manage the block list are about as reasonable and level-headed as you might expect. Allegedly there are 3 other people that manage the block list, but none of them are known at this time. @badfurbgone has been hit with DMCA's and other legal notices since its launch earlier this week. When I went to archive the block bot I was notified that there was a recent save of the page from just a few hours ago, so it sounds like it's still making its rounds among circles. I don't know much more about it as I've only really heard about this through the grapevine, and am relying on the detective work of other furs and taking their findings as legitimate. 8chan thread about @badfurbgone: http://www.8ch.net/furry/res/375234.html edit: According to a recent tweet, the user @earsfox is now an admin on the block list. This person is the creator's partner, and brings the admin count up to 5. The previous 3 are still unknown as far as I can tell.
How did furries end up falling under the SJW wing anyway? Were they just looking for any group that would accept them and push the idea that they're "normal?"
I think maybe they see furries as an easy target to manipulate. That's the only reason I could see them going there, or maybe that they're furries themselves and are trying to make themselfs look better in the light of SJWs..
I think furries are trying to shoehorn their way into the club of protected sexual minorities you're not allowed to laugh at. Really, even SJWs should say "lol nope."
Probably around about the same time people decided that it was socially acceptable to walk around in public dressed like Klingons. Or openly live their lives by the codes and rules espoused in the books of Gor. This type of shit's present in more fandoms than most people realize.
I tried writing a thread about this creep, but it never got off the ground. So, I'll just post my findings about this guy here. Meet ChazJackal/Francis/#1 Lucario Fan (links here, here and here). He's not just obsessed with Lucario (I kinda like Lucario myself, but NOT in the way he is!), but facesitting/smothering, especially what I call seabagging (Facesitting +sweat). Here are some especially cringeworthy comments of his: Spoiler: Dude, you OK? (Warning: A lot of pics) Looking at his journal, it becomes extremely obvious that he's nutso, bonkers, crazy, psychotic, insane, off the walls, fucked up in the head, has a screw loose, however you want to say it, and that he had an abusive childhood.:http://www.furaffinity.net/journals/francis/ Moving swiftly on, we have the issue of how cephalopods are treated in furry art. I know that most furries prefer mammals (hence the name), but there are few cephalopods in this genre of art, and even then they're usually used for tentacle porn. THE SMARTEST INVERTEBRATES ON THE PLANET ARE SEEN AS NOTHING MORE THAN DILDO COLLECTIONS! But then again, this is only a bit of a personal issue. Another issue is terrible webcomics. http://www.cracked.com/article_17607_the-5-circles-baffling-web-comic-hell_p4.html http://badwebcomicswiki.shoutwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&search=furry&go=Go No, you're not drunk/high/hallucinating/having a nightmare, the dragon/kangaroo thing in the Boston and Shaun strip in the Cracked article LITERALLY ATE THE MOON! No idea why eating astronomical bodies turns people on (See here for another example). AND THIS CHARACTER IS ON EARTH! Here's a bit of a science lesson for you: Moving the moon towards the Earth (even inside someone's stomach, however that works) would have a DRASTIC effect on the tides on Earth, so the fact that all of Earth hasn't been Atlantis-fied in this strip is pretty miraculous. Or, in AT4W's words, BECAUSE POOR UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENCE IS KEWL! Speaking of erotic astronomical doom, I present to you a cataclysm that hits me right where it hurts: THE OCEAN! Spoiler: Thetis's Nightmare Let me analyze this picture: Some sort of wolf is drowning the entire planet in milk (dooming not only terrestrial but also sea life), the Earth has gained 2 extra satellites which are aiding in the transformation of Earth into an inhospitable hellhole, and this is supposed to sexy. Somebody please kill people like this before they reproduce and make their twisted dreams a reality! Also, how are they not dead from the vacuum of space?
I think from what I've seen they try to worm their way into the inner workings of SJW stuff and then slowly bring it out so that they're already linked. Like, they become respected by the community first and then try to push their "We should be accepting of all sexualities, making fun of furries is what the misogynerd dudebros do" and it works.
Furries =/= SJW's. We predate them (online at least) by about a couple of decades. This mess with political correctness and triggering and all this bullshit is, and I apologize in advance for throwing this word down, the work of a bunch of whiny faggots. "Fliffums", the person running the block list, wasn't even fucking born when the fandom was coming into fruition. Like StrikerWolf, I've been associating with people in the fandom for longer than chucklefucks like her and her cronies have been a thing. The fact that they think they can show up and try to run the place is offensive, and it upsets me that the only people I've seen giving pushback to these pieces of shit are furs that are my age. We're on our way out these days and are largely unattached to the fandom as a whole now, and this is what has happened to it after 2 generations. Furs are not a "sexual minority". Fucking in animal costumes is not a sexual identity, it's a fetish. You can't shoehorn furries into some bullshit homophobia/racism perspective or whatever; there is no "-phobia" for furry and the people who push that envelope on both sides are retards. 20 years ago we didn't have PC police trying to threaten and harass other people, we had members of our fandom getting off their asses and doing things like writing "The Yiffy Guide to Safer Sex" which, despite its stupid name, did a lot of good for the community. None of these people are coming anywhere close to "doing good". 20 years ago there wasn't an issue with political correctness because people weren't a bunch of pussies. Our community had at least some modicum of respect for each other, even if we disagreed, largely because A) we're all from a different generation and B) nobody was petty enough to be an SJW in 1995. As far as I'm concerned, Fliffums & Co have no place in this fandom. Fuck them and their stupid Tumblr hivemind. Fucking homewreckers.
